Tomorrow: free pizza with The Oddfellows
The Oddfellows in Bournemouth want to reach out to locals in a bid to improve people’s lives in the area by forging new friendships – something they have been passionately doing for over 200 years.
Tomorrow, November 25, they are organising an evening of bingo and pizza at the Tuckton Social Club, Tuckton Road, Bournemouth.
More than nine million people of all ages in the UK say they are lonely either often or always, according to research by The Co-Op and the Red Cross. The Oddfellows want to help combat this by encouraging people to come along to a social event, meet their members and enjoy themselves. This is especially important before the Christmas period.
Margaret White, Branch Secretary of Bournemouth Oddfellows, said: “Our members will be ready to offer a warm welcome to everyone who turns up and answer any questions they might have about the Society
“We’re really looking forward to it and, as well as having a nice time, there’ll also be a chance to enter our prize draw to win a luxury food hamper.”
Jane Nelson, CEO of the Oddfellows, said: “We are passionate about meeting new people and making friendships that last a lifetime. We believe nobody should be lonely or suffer in silence. We want to encourage people to come along and meet us to find out more about what we can offer, particularly ahead of Christmas when so many can feel their loneliest if they don’t have friends and family to share the festive season with.
“Our members travel and regularly meet up for social activities together. Plus, we make a real difference to the wider communities in which we operate by raising vital funds for charities which our members love to do!
“We are here for everyone, and welcome members from all walks of life. We look forward to seeing all the new faces at our upcoming event and hope everyone has a fantastic time.”
