Preview: Masterclass with John Morales

Friday July 29 at Canvas, 45 Poole Hill, Bournemouth: Buy tickets here

Canvas have made some big announcements this year but one of the biggest for Bournemouth has to be the appearance of John Morales at the end of July.

Anyone who’s anyone in Bournemouth has been to Bump N Hustle, be it at the BIC, the Pavillion, Bar So etc… This comes from the same tip-top team. Now Canvas is introducing a new generation of funk and soul fans to this very special local tradition.

On July 29 they will launch with a big, big bang. John Morales will be headlining as part of a world tour that also takes in Ibiza, London, Australia, New Zealand… and now, Bournemouth.

If dance music and remixing were boxing, Morales would be a heavyweight. He’s not interested in press and parties, though: instead, he toils tirelessly behind the scenes on remixes as well as original track that blend the best disco beats with the latest dance trends.

His acclaimed album Club Motown was seven years in the making and still one of Amazon’s best-sellers. You can pick it up here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/John-Morales-Presents-Club-Motown/dp/B00KLNIEL8

But Morales told Time Out magazine that his work with The Rolling Stones in the early 1980s was one of his favourite but most dramatic projects.

He said: “That session was a nightmare. Forget the fact that Mick and Keith were drunk out of their heads – Mick Jagger stole my coat.

“I guess Mick hung his on top of mine, and when he left, he took it. When I wanted to leave at 6.30am, I had no coat, no house keys, nothing. So I called one of their associates and he said: ‘Yeah, it happens. Just let us know how to reimburse you.’ And I said: ‘No, that’s my favourite leather coat.’”

As well as attracting this massive headliner, Baby Bump will be ably supported and overseen by local legend Bob Povey, as well as Chris Wheatley and DJ Garphie.

We predict a sell out on this one so DON’T dither with your ticket buying. Tickets cost from £6 for Members & Early Birds or £8 standard.

Expect a summer scorcher as only Canvas know how to create.
