Christmas in Bournemouth: 24 hours

Only got one day to spend in Bournemouth over the Christmas holidays? Don’t worry, thanks to Make It Bournemouth, we have the perfect itinerary for you.

From 10am, skate on real ice under the trees at the outdoor ice rink in the Lower Gardens, against the picturesque backdrop of après-skate chalets. Not into skating? You can watch the family have fun while warming yourself with mulled wine and nibbles from the new rink-side bars.

From 3pm, jump on the new hop-on hop-off Santa Express land train. Starting and ending in the Lower Gardens, the train costs just £1 per person per day and takes a route around the town centre with stops at Westover Road, Old Christchurch Road, the Town Square and the Triangle. You can see the best of Bournemouth centre in one day, for one pound.

From 4pm, head to Bournemouth’s popular Gardens of Light. With some brand new installations alongside a trail of light projections and a selection of the famous Light Pods, the Gardens of Light are completely free to explore and the creation of the award-winning team at Michael Grubb Studio.

And of course, do your Christmas shopping and head to the Moose Bar for a warm cider or mulled wine. Weather taken a turn? The indoor Christmas Bar will run every day in the old Print Rooms from Friday December 11 to Sunday December 20 and is ideal for after-work drinks, post-shopping shenanigans and more.

Like last year, the experienced team at Seventa Events are in charge and, looking at the sneak-peak photos on Facebook, we are in for another festive treat. You can book a table online for food and drink; how about a winter-warming Sunday roast with all the trimmings? Or snack on Christmas-themed tapas or keep the cold out with a hog roast bap.

Christmas cocktails and homemade mulled wine and warm cider will be prepared by the team – we are intrigued to try the Strawberry & Candy Cane Mojitos, Merry Berry Xmas Smash and frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Snow Cones!

Lisa Tucker, Chair of Bournemouth’s Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), said: “We’ve worked hard to make Christmas in Bournemouth so much more than just a one-off celebration. Residents and visitors can enjoy six weeks of impressive lighting installations, skating under the stars and rides on the Santa Express, there’s entertainment for all the family right up until Christmas Day so you can really make a day of it in Bournemouth!”
