Rowing: Junior rowers put Bournemouth on the map
British Rowing’s Junior Inter-Regional Regatta was held on Saturday April 22 at Holme Pierrepont Country Park, where Bournemouth Rowing Club’s Junior squad – made up of students from Harewood College – represented the Wessex region.
The championships featured racing over 1500-metres, and was contested by crews from all of the British Rowing Regions to form 12 teams in total. With some stiff competition from large clubs across the country, Bournemouth’s rowers set about making their presence known in the three categories they had entered.
Ben Chesterman and Charlie Ranson put in a solid performance in the double, just missing out on a position in the A final, but finishing third in the B final. Bournemouth’s coxed four, made up of Dom Bihari, Nathan Prowles, Tom Cave, Connor Stone and Alex Sturney (cox) made it to the A final and put in an impressive performance to finish fourth overall. And finally, the same four teamed up with four rowers from Winchester to form a composite crew, and progressed through their heat to the A final. Ben Chesterman and Charlie Ranson then joined Dom Bihari and Nathan Prowles in the final with the four Winchester rowers to finish fourth – another notable result.
Bournemouth Rowing Club would like to congratulate coach Alvin Ranson and their junior rowers for these fantastic performances, which are the result of a lot of hard work and dedication. The club welcomes any new members that would like to give the sport a go – details of how you can get involved are available at www.wbrc.co.uk.
