Rowing: Bournemouth Rowers extend championship lead

Winning crew (training)After a number of dominating performances at the start of the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association’s race season, a crew from Bournemouth Rowing Club has extended their lead in the Junior Senior category with only two points required to secure the championship.

Dom Bihari, Tom Cave, Dom Brancaleone and Nathan Prowles, along with coxswain Rees Gellender, have picked up wins at Christchurch Regatta, Shanklin Regatta and Itchen Regatta to extend their lead to 5-1 over local rivals Poole Amateur Rowing Club.

If Bournemouth manage to secure the J/S championship, they will be invited to represent the association at the South Coast Championships held in September.

The successful campaign has been the result of hard work and training under the supervision of Bournemouth Rowing Club’s head coach, Alvin Ranson.

The crew is also made up of former Harewood College students who came through the club’s strong ties with the school and a desire to introduce rowing to young members within the local community.

Bournemouth will be competing at Woolston on Saturday June 16 and in Swanage on Saturday June 23 where they hope to see off competition from Poole and Lymington to secure victory.
