Rowing: Bournemouth Ladies win at Christchurch

After a strong start to the season for Bournemouth’s Junior men, it was the Novice ladies squad that dominated at Christchurch Regatta on Saturday  June 3 to bring home silverware for the club.

With this two-lane course set along the river Stour, the Bournemouth rowers weren’t far from home as they competed against local rivals in this fours only regatta. With Bournemouth’s Junior men just missing out on winning their category, it was Itchen that took the victory and levelled with Bournemouth to make it 2-2 in the race for the championship.

Bournemouth’s squad of J16 ladies represented the club in their second ever race, putting in a sterling effort and just missing out on making the Novice final. But it was Bournemouth’s Novice Ladies – Anita Hassall, Monika Matusova, Kirsty Jane Todd and Siobhan Groves (coxed by Connor Stone) – who progressed to the final and picked up first place ahead of Christchurch, promoting them to Junior status.

Racing for the Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association will reconvene on Saturday 17th June at Swanage.

Bournemouth Rowing Club will be hosting a Comedy Night on Friday  June 30 at East Dorset Rugby Club on Iford Lane. For tickets, please email dombranca@yahoo.com.
