Editor’s blog: 6 Week Body Transformation – week 4 (the redemption)
Week 4 of my bootcamp adventure has been all about redemption. I’m still kicking myself for slipping up on the alcohol front. But I can’t change it – all I can do is work extra hard in the second half of the programme and do my best to get the best results possible.
And I can definitely see results. I haven’t weighed myself but all my trousers are loose. I need some new ones for training so I don’t have to keep pulling them up all the time…
I’m working with local trainer Jango Alpekin’s 6 Week Body Transformation programme and each exercise session is so much fun. I have the occasional tantrum, out of frustration, but I’ve started turning my phone off to help with that. I’m still rushing around a lot and now that my waist is smaller, I can see the bloated effects of stress all the more. I need to take a good look at my schedule and cancel about half the things in it.
Have you heard the phrase “you can have results, or excuses, not both”? Well, I hope this blog isn’t just a slew of excuses. My life is busy and stressful but I have to take the blame for creating a lot of that stress myself. I have about 10 jobs but that’s mainly because I am not very good with money. I am rubbish at saving – when a big bill or unexpected expense comes up, I just take on another job or freelance commission. If I budgetted better, I wouldn’t have to do that.
People who eat the wrong foods often make excuses, too. I used to do it. I’d grab a takeaway because I was tired and couldn’t be bothered to cook – I kidded myself that I was ‘treating’ myself. But the recipes that Jango gives me taste better, cost less and give me energy. My favourites so far are chicken pizza or lamb burgers (recipe below).
Diet sins: I’ve been really craving orange juice and getting a bit bored of green tea and water. I grabbed one during a particularly busy day as I was feeling dizzy. I know, excuses excuses…
Diet saint: There was no bootcamp on Bank Holiday Monday so I went for a run then did 20 minutes of stretches. Flexibility is a nice and unexpected side effect of the programme.
Our editor Suzi is currently enjoying (enduring) a 6 Week Body Transformation programme with Jango. If you lack the confidence and self-esteem and you want someone to guide you step by step to achieve the body you desire, then head over to Bournemouth bootcamp and activate your free taster week.
RECIPE: Lamb Burgers with Pistachio Pesto
Time in the kitchen : 30 minutes

1 ½ lbs ground lamb
1 teaspoon cumin
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon all spice
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
2oz finely chopped mint leaves
2oz chopped parsley
Pesto ingredients :
1 garlic clove
8oz unsalted shelled pistachios
4oz olive oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice, or more to taste
2oz loosely packed mint leaves
A pinch of sea salt
Mix together the ground lamb with the remaining burger ingredients. Form four patties and pan-fry or grill them, about 4-6 minutes per side. While the burgers are cooking, blend together pesto ingredients in a food processor. Serve burgers with pesto drizzled on top.
