Bournemouth rowers secure championship

We may have crashed out of the World Cup but we have plenty of winners here in Bournemouth. Dom Brancaleone reports on a triumphant victory for our local rowing Gods.

With just three races left of the Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association’s season, a crew from Bournemouth Rowing Club has already secured the Junior-Senior championship with nine wins out of the ten regattas attended.

Dom Bihari, Tom Cave, Dom Brancaleone and Nathan Prowles, along with coxswain Rees Gellender, have dominated their category with convincing performances throughout the campaign. With thirteen regattas making up the season, Bournemouth Rowing Club went to Swanage Regatta on Saturday 23rd June knowing that a win there would secure them the seven points they needed for overall victory. Racing against local rivals Lymington RC and Poole ARC, the Bournemouth crew took a commanding lead and held off a late surge from Poole to finish in first place.

Now that Bournemouth has won the championship, they will represent the association at the South Coast Championships in September, where they will meet championship crews from rival associations CARA and WEARA.
