Beauty buys you might not know you need

Much as I love writing about beauty, this blog pains me. Through my features, blogs and Twitter feed, I’ve made a name for myself as a health writer that favours budget buys over beauty splurges. I want to help babes on a budget save money and still look gorgeous, hence my many #deals tweets. But recently, I’ve been using one or two bits that aren’t cheap and you may not class as essential… until you use them yourself.

Benefit Porefessional Primer

Here are my top-five beauty buys that you may not know you needed, until now (sorry).

Benefit Porefessional Primer
I’m not famous, or infamous, enough to be followed by the paparazzi but the rise of Facebook means the morning-after a night out if characterised by frantic photo de-tagging. When I found that I was looking shiny in most night-out pics, I asked my local Benefit counter for help. I am now addicted to their new Porefessional Primer – pat on under foundation or use alone during the day for a matt finish. Benefit Porefessional Primer, £23.50, available online.

TempleSpa Bosom Pal
It’s a bra in a jar! I’m too young to get wrinkles on the decolletage but it is surely only a matter of time. I’ve never used a boob cream before but TempleSpa’s Bosom Pal not only tackled a few telltale lines, it also firmed up my cleavage and gave me an enviable shape even in a T-shirt bra. Use alongside daily press-ups for breast, sorry, best results. TempleSpa Bosom Pal, £40, available online.

M2 Eyelash Activating Serum

M2 Eyelash Activating Serum & M2 Eyelash Revitalising Gloss
I’m a regular false lash user and I’ve had to deal with patchy, weak eyelashes, loosened by poor quality glue and, yes, a bit of late-night tugging. I took a while to be convinced by M2 but, with daily use, this wonder-serum has given me enviable lashes in just four weeks. They are now thicker and longer, to the point that a good eyelash curl is all I need. I may be able to ditch the falsies and lash extensions forever. M2 Eyelash Activating Serum, £123, available at Harrods exclusively.

DermaHA Cleansing Oil
I’ve used face oils in the past but always found them too rich, or they irritate my skin. New Swedish skin care range called DermaHA, available exclusively from www.skinsecrets.co.uk, is especially formulated for anti-ageing and also soothes sensitive skins. Apply before a bath, incorporating a firm facial massage, for best results. DermaHA Cleansing Oil, £15, available online.

Transformulas FirmSlim
Another key part of my bath ritual is FirmSlim. A firm thigh massage is as helpful for cellulite as any cream, but combine said massage with this light mousse and you get an instant warming, tingling sensation. The best fat-burning products work by heating the body, ie by being thermogenically active, to boost circulation – but few work as quickly as this. Transformulas is one of my favourite beauty brands currently – I’m also loving their LipVolume gloss and Collagen Boost supplements. Transforumlas FirmSlim, £21.25, available online.
