Recommends: LA Williams

If you think of Bournemouth and think of fish ‘n’ chips on the seafront and little old ladies on the Pier – you clearly haven’t visited lately. It’s all going off at the South coast’s best beach resort and LA Williams is leading the pack in bringing ‘underground’ house back to the masses.

Bournemouth born and bred, LA has built up a cult following in the past two and a half years and now presides over the best tech, progressive house and techno nights in the seaside resort. House Arrest, a collaboration with local legend Fred From France, just held a highly successful late-June night at The Winchester and LA is still on a high.

“Playing back to back with Colin Dale and bringing DJs such as Fabien Sense and Otonom to our night was a career highlight for me,” LA said. “I love music and working with talented people – this is what I want to do.”

LA certainly has the midas touch when it comes to bringing niche musical styles back into the public consciousness. His other club night, Terminal, launched on January 7. A graveyard slot for any other DJ – but not LA. The Winchester was packed and the next event on July 28 is highly anticipated, not just in Bournemouth, but across the South of England.

A former bedroom DJ, LA was given the confidence to expand his audience by the hugely supportive network in Bournemouth. He had the experience – playing Gosh in Salisbury when not out of his teens – but it took the support of pros at Afrodisiac radio and, eventually, the Grand Theft Audio (GTA) night at The Winchester to coax LA out into the open.

And once he played to the public, there was no stopping him. He was offered a GTA residency after his very first night spinning and Mark and the management team supported him from then on.

LA’s unique style of mixing progressive house with techno have now spread to nights in London – at Pacha, Ministry of Sound and Egg – and across the Channel to France, playing with his bon amie Fred at I Love Electro. Such is LA’s skill he won over the Gaelic electro crowd with techno and is now working with Magic Events via Fabien Sense on more French exchange fun.

LA is a master of tech, progressive house and techno and has big plans to progress. His dream is to have more time to produce and follow in the footsteps of Kasey Taylor, Fiord and Henry Saiz. Behind the decks, he admires Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, John Digweed and Marco Carola – and his stint playing back to back with Colin Dale has enabled to up his game to new levels. Watch this space…
