How to get the perfect festival hair
It’s that time of year again, four days of questionable hygiene while fuelled by cider and great music, festival season! You hair has a tough time in the summer with bleaching from the sun, sea salt and not to mention the rare washing it gets as you clamber out of your tent to listen to your favourite bands. Here, we provide you with some of the trends you’ll see this year and how you can realistically achieve this with your own hair.
Braids for days
You can braid to your hearts content for festivals, whether you opt for one side, the centre parting, or the entire head, braiding is perfect for festivals. However, one you have braided you can’t go back which means you have to be quite tactical about it. Can you braid yourself or do any of your friends have some hair do talents? There are often braid stations at festivals but the queues will be massive. If you want braids for the duration of the festival, visit the hairdressers and have them done professionally. But, if they’re your option for when your hair has gone greasy it’s time you learnt how to twizzle them in yourself.
Wave goodbye to straight hair
Straight hair is far more difficult to keep looking nice over a weekend than hair with a bit of oomph. The Telegraph’s guide even go’s so far to suggest you book in for a bouncy blow dry the evening before you drive to the festival, ‘“Having your hair styled by a professional helps keep the look for much longer, I suggest beach waves or curls with rollers,” says hair stylist and founder of Lockonego salon Jonathon Long.
Festivals are the sorts of places you can unleash your wild side without looking like you’ve gone off the rails. Ever wanted to dye your hair bright pink? Well this is your chance! If you’d like to get involved in semi-permanent colour, there are plenty of pastels and sprays that are a lot more technically advanced than they used to be. L’Oreal Paris has developed Colorista Sprays which come in various shades you can mix and match for the dreamiest rainbow hair you could ever imagine, for one weekend only.
A messy pony
When all else fails, spritz your hair with some texturizing spray such as Bumble & Bumble’s surf spray and twist it into a high pony. Finish the look off with some glitter and you could even attach a feathery braid or some beads to give your pony more festival glitz and glamour. If you’re low on length, you can always look to companies such as American Dream Extensions and invest in a clip in or tie in pony made from real human hair so that you look like the real deal.
