Halo presents Sasha; new night Chemistry; and John Digweed

As Halo comes up to its first birthday in this town, how appropriate that it boast three weekends in a row of banging house, big names and inventive ideas – just what Gary Bennetton promised when he took over in May last year. Tonight, we host arguably the biggest night of the year as Back2House present Sasha; next weekend, new night Chemistry takes the church in a deep and soulful house direction; and the week after that, on Bank Holiday Sunday May 4, John Digweed hosts the after party at the official first birthday weekend.

And that’s only the highlights of the next three weeks – it’s the sort of schedule that will have dance lovers setting up camp outside this beautiful converted church and clearing their schedules. I wonder if they will let me take a sleeping bag.

Sasha is the headliner tonight, as Back2House once more takes over the church with LEG visuals, dancers, creatives and a stunning supporting line-up of local talent, too. Sasha is of course one of the world’s most influencial electronic dance music DJs, respected for his studio work but worshipped for his live shows. Gary Benetton b2b Dan Reid (High Tide), LA Williams (Terminal) and Back2House residents Uncle D and Kuba Drypher provide support.

Meanwhile Chemistry next Friday, April 25, is a new night at Halo Bournemouth, bringing deep and soulful house to the church – perfect if you are in a summery mood and an ideal way to dance in payday weekend. DJ Pioneer, of Kiss FM fame, tops the line-up alongside Mark Radford and DJ Supa D.

On the actual birthday weekend, the party turns up a notch, with three big parties over the Bank Holiday. Friday night, May 2, sees an Enter & Drumfunk takeover – arguably Bournemouth’s best night for drum n bass with a massive headliner, FuntCase, alongside Whitey and Skg & Rizzle. Saturday night, May 3, is classic Halo, big dance tunes and a party atmosphere, with resident DJ Jay Welch backed by circus performers, sexy dancers, stunning visuals and the Werk Girls. Then, on Sunday, it’s a party helmed jointly by the Get Satisfied, Shake and Waved parties – these boys know how to fill the church and expect house at its purest from this experienced team, who have been running parties in Bournemouth for many years between them. The highlight will be the legendary John Digweed who, like his one-time parter in crime Sasha, is literally worshipped in the DJ and dance communities.

Happy birthday to Halo! Here’s to many more big nights out and big names in the year to come.
