Blogger’s bank holiday guide

Unboxing Bournemouth: What to do this bank holiday weekend

If the heat wave holds up over the bank holiday, you can bet a trip to Bournemouth Beach will be high on the agenda for many families over the three-day weekend. But, with the forecast predicting the chance of cloud and rain, it’s always wise to have a plan B.

Local lifestyle blogger Arora Appleby shared some of her favourite local hotspots with Watch Shop for its Unbox the City campaign, revealing the best route for spending a day out in Bournemouth – come rain or shine.

Get creative at All Fired Up

The Pottery Café is not only the place to go to get your caffeine fix, it’s also a great way to get the creative juices flowing. All Fired Up is a paint-your-own pottery workshop that encourages visitors to find their inner William Morris, painting ceramics ranging from mugs and teapots, to piggy banks and fairies.

Once your work of art is complete, All Fired Up will find space for it in its kilns, where it will be ready to collect within seven days.

All Fired Up, The Square, 35-37 Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth, BH2 6DT

Mini adventure golf at Oasis Fun

Indoor playground Oasis Fun is such a great day out your family will be praying for rain just so they have an excuse to go! The mini adventure golf is enough to keep budding Rory McIlroys entertained, with a variety of ingenious, jungle-themed obstacles to work through.

If the golf ball hungry crocodiles and tigers aren’t enough to keep them busy, then the soft play centre, bowling alley, or arcade machines might just be the ticket.

Into the blue at The Oceanarium

What do pig-nosed turtles, black-tip sharks, and African dwarf crocodiles all have in common? Very little actually, however they can all be found at The Oceanarium, which also boasts a fantastic penguin exhibit where you can get a brilliant view of these amazing animals.

And, if your family can’t get enough of the penguins, then you can upgrade to the VIP feeding experience and get up-close-and-personal with everyone’s favourite flightless bird.

Caffeine injection at Espresso Kitchen

Whether you start your day with coffee or like to have an afternoon pick-me-up, you can do a lot worse than visit Espresso Kitchen. The independent, artisan coffee house is dog-friendly and its no-work weekends mean there’s a laptop ban on Saturdays and Sundays.

Oh, and it also happens to roast some of the best beans you’ll find on the coast, and bake some of the most moreish cakes, cookies and flapjacks. The perfect place for a bank holiday pit stop.
