Don’t give up the day job

So here we are, not even three months since launch, and we are getting more than 3,300 page views per month. Wow! Clearly Bournemouth likes to go out, likes to read about going out and, most of all I suspect, likes to view photos of people on a night out.

We’ve had some fantastic support from venues and promoters, too. I try to get to 4-5 nights over the weekend, and at least 2 in the week – if I had to pay to get into all of those, I’d go bankrupt. Yes, we love the website but we still need to have day jobs to pay the rent. The other day I got up at 6am and had an 18-hour day to do my usual job, head out, cover a new night and get it written up. We love it but it’s exhausting!

Luckily, I have some balance in my life and plenty of healthy activities in the week to give me energy for the weekend. I love training at Ippon Gym with Kane Evans. I’ve just started a course of hypnotherapy with Positive Benefits. And my flatmate, marvellous Martin, is on hand to advise me what to eat.

So while the success of the site has taken us by surprise somewhat, we have a good team around us to keep building it and get where we need to go. Yes, there will be nights when none of my friends are free and I’m sat on my own with my notepad. Yes, there will be mornings like today when I curse my nocturnal activities and crave a duvet day. But if we keep building the site the way it’s going, soon we will have an army of writers heading out on our behalf. And I can stay home with a cup of peppermint tea and watch TV. One day.

In the meantime, forgive the purple bags under my eyes. I can’t give up the day job. Yet.
