Afternoon tea has always been a quintessentially British pastime, however this summer, Cliveden has put a twist on the tradition, with the sweet elements of the afternoon tea all based around the red velvet cake and its connection with New York’s famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, which was built by Cliveden’s former owner, the 1st Viscount Astor.

Cliveden is thrilled to welcome guests into the Cliveden Dining Room on Monday through to Saturday between 12:00 noon and 14:30 to indulge in afternoon tea, and on Sundays in the Great Hall between 14:15 and 16:30. Cliveden’s Classic Red Velvet Afternoon Tea includes: a selection of savoury treats; sandwiches; freshly-baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam; delectable bite-sized cakes, pastries and delicacies, all based around the celebrated red velvet cake. Naturally, these treats are served with Cliveden blend teas and guests also have the option to enjoy these with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne.

Finally, a trip to Cliveden would not be complete without a leisurely stroll around the beautiful estate an additional charge of £10 is levied by the National Trust for all guests visiting Cliveden House for lunch and afternoon tea, although if you are already a National Trust member there is no extra charge.
